ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
What Is ISO 14001?
ISO 14001 is an international Environmental Management System standard that helps organizations manage their environmental impacts systematically. It supports organizations in identifying the environmental effects of their activities, products, and services, controlling those effects, and continually improving their environmental performance.
The standard is not limited to manufacturers. Organizations of any size or type can adapt ISO 14001 to their operations if they want to manage their environmental impacts.
What Does the ISO 14001 Standard Provide?
ISO 14001 was developed by ISO/TC 207, ISO’s technical committee for environmental management. It provides a framework for identifying environmental impacts, deciding which ones require priority attention, and establishing processes to manage them.
The system helps organizations address matters such as energy, water and raw material use, waste generation, pollution, and environmental legal obligations. An organization sets objectives, monitors results, and plans improvements where needed. This makes environmental management part of day-to-day operations rather than an activity carried out only from time to time.
